LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Dear Catapult Community, We all start somewhere! If you attended any of the events we held in our Business Seminar Series at the 100 Club this year, you likely would have walked away with the great feeling that with some hard work, the possibility for great success could be just around the corner. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to interview Paul Holloway, Chase Bailey and Renee Plummer this year. Their stories resonated with many people in the audience because each speaker shared how they started out; and not all paths to success were open highways from the get-go. You may remember the question we asked each speaker at the conclusion of each event, "What can someone working for you do to catapult themselves to the next level?" Each answer was unique but shared a similar theme throughout - go above and beyond what is expected of you. I recently attended Business NH Magazine and Stay Work Play's Rising Star Awards Ceremony and also found some downtime to peruse the Fortune Magazine 40 Under 40 issue. It is always quite impressive to see young professionals highlighted. They have identified their passions and have set off on their own journeys to build businesses, create jobs and contribute to society. They have gone above and beyond what was expected of them and are on track for great success; a concept not unfamiliar to Catapulters. All that said, great success does not only apply to career growth and paychecks. Relationships, health and joy are important and worth just as much attention. This is food for thought as we close out 2010 and approach a new year with new possibilities; an open road with many exits. I am excited to find out what 2011 has in store for all of us and look forward to seeing you all again soon. I hope you all have safe and happy holidays amongst friends and family. Warmest regards, Helen Chair & Co-Founder, Catapult Seacoast UPCOMING CATAPULT EVENTS ![]() Catapult Holiday & Anniversary Party 'Tis the season and we want to celebrate! Catapulters really got a whole new perspective of the Seacoast! The night closed at RiRa where everyone enjoyed a pint and some food with new friends. Business Speaker Series: A Night with Renee Plummer, November ![]() Catapult's third and final Business Speaker Series (BSS) event of 2010, held again at the 100 Club, featured speaker host Renee Plummer of Two International Group, a commercial real estate development company. The Catapult audience learned about how Plummer has been a driving force in transforming the former Pease Air Force Base into the flourishing business complex that is Pease International Tradeport. Plummer is also involved in many philanthropic events throughout the NH seacoast area. When asked how she does it all, Plummer joked encouraged us to chase after what we want, but just don't plan on sleeping much! The November event was sponsored by Liberty Mutual. See pictures from the event. At the conclusion of each BSS event, Catapult asks its signature question: "What can someone working for you do to catapult themselves to the next level?" You can learn more about Renee Plummer and how she answered our question: Renee Plummer Signature Question. Catapult's Business Speaker Series events kicked off in March at the 100 Club with speaker host Paul Holloway. The second event was held in June with speaker host Chase Bailey. Each of the BSS speaker hosts brought something new to the Catapult audience in terms of their backgrounds, stories of how they achieved success, industry expertise and areas of interest, however each stressed the importance of relationships and networking to reaching goals. O'DONNELL By CAREEREALISM-Approved Expert, Deborah Shane ![]() Recently I read a networking article in a business publication that posed the question: Are virtual relationships real relationships? I can tell you there are several opinions about this depending on who you ask. Those who do not spend much time engaged online and on the web think this is ridiculous. Those who are engaged and invested online and on the web as an integral part of their daily business will tell you, those 'virtual relationships' are the very ones that have lead to some of the most valued relationships they have made in life and business. I can only share with you how my social platforms and the virtual connections I have made on them have been turned into what I call actionable relationships. I spoke earlier this year for our Social Media Club and my topic was "Building Actionable Relationships from Social Networking," which I followed up by writing this post. This year through my Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Blogtalk Radio platforms I have met and developed amazing connections nationally and globally, leading to potential strategic partnerships, referrals and support communities. Here are a few key ones that come to mind: |
