Top 5 Breakfast Spots on the Seacoast

Do you love breakfast? We certainly love breakfast! I think it is safe to say everyone is a bit of a breakfast enthusiast. Good thing the Seacoast is booming with breakfast spots of all kinds. Everything from hole in the wall greasy spoons to fully functioning brunch menus, the Seacoast has no limits of delicious breakfast foods.

1) Nibblesworth

Two words. BREAKFAST POUTINE. Let that sink in... Sink into a bed of warm, handmade french fries, covered with creamy cheddar, scrumptious gravy, and topped with two fresh eggs.

One of Portsmouth’s newer restaurants, Nibblesworth, located in the historic Nutter-Rymes House on “The Hill” in Downtown Portsmouth, serves Brunch on Sunday’s from 10am - 3pm. Nibblesworth’s entire menu features local flavors with all ingredients being sourced within just miles of the restaurant.

Before you wolf down a plate of the Oh, Canada, breakfast poutine, be sure to place an order for those bottomless mimosas or bloody marys. They’ll keep those coming as you move onto a full plate of masterful eggs benny’s and latke hash browns.

Must have: Lobster Royale Benny

Location: 409 The Hill, Portsmouth, NH

2) Fat Dog Kitchen

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from downtown Portsmouth is the holy grail of breakfast food in the charming town of Dover. Fat Dog Kitchen is a true hole in the wall establishment that is run by a husband and wife duo who have a passion for cooking up simply good food.

With only about 8 tables, Fat Dog Kitchen can get busy quick. If you’re heading there on a weekend, be sure to get there early. 1) Because of the limited seating and 2) They sell out of their legendary Maple Bacon Cinnamon Buns FAST.

While their menu is booming with items such as french toast loaded with Captain Crunch and Cash’s Favorite, a pulled pork eggs bennys topped with sriracha, nothing beats their Big Ol’ Breakfast Sammich. Made with j-u-m-b-o Thomas English Muffins and filled with two eggs, you’ll be one happy dog after leaving Fat Dog Kitchen.

Must have: Breakfast Sandwich with hollandaise sauce and home fries

Location: 20 Third Street, Dover, NH

3) The Golden Egg

As you drive out of Portsmouth, heading to a long day of catching rays at Jenness beach, make a pit stop at The Golden Egg on the outskirts of town.

The Golden Egg is a legendary breakfast and lunch joint with the perfect family friendly atmosphere. Folks (or yolks!) of all ages and stages can be seen at The Golden Egg on the weekends, munching on the homemade muffins, wide variety of benedicts, and more. With everything made fresh to order and the friendly staff, the environment at The Golden Egg is like no other.

Ready for an expert level breakfast move? Avoid the wait for a table in the summer months by calling in your breakfast sandwich order to be picked up. Simply swing by on your way to the beach, and chow down on your sammie while you’ve got your bum in a beach chair and your toes in the sand.

Must Have: Eggs North Atlantic Benedict

Location: 960 Sagamore Ave, Portsmouth, NH

4) Lils

Have you been searching for the perfect way to make your Instagram more visually appealing? Well, hope you have an appetite because not only will the food and drinks at Lil’s Cafe take your Instagram feed to the next level, but it will be delicious too!

Lil’s Cafe is a great spot for breakfast goers looking to get outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Portsmouth. Located in the quaint Kittery Foreside, Lil’s has cafe style seating with a large variety of highly photogenic drinks, food, and pastries.

Don’t forget, a trip to Lil’s isn’t complete without snagging a world famous cruller! Made fresh at the Lil’s Kitchen, the crullers come in a variety of flavors. Ours is hands down the original, but there’s only one way to find out your favorite… try them all!

Must Have: Brisket Breakfast Burrito

Location: 7 Wallingford Square, Kittery, ME

5) Colby’s Breakfast & Lunch

Do you ever wake up and ask yourself, “Where can I find the absolute best pancakes in the entire world?” Well, the wait is over. WE’VE FOUND THEM at Colby’s Breakfast and Lunch in Portsmouth!

Colby’s is the spot for a full plate on Saturday or Sunday morning. It may just be the cure after a fun night on the town. Do keep in mind though that the wait for a table might be out the door, around the corner, and down the street. Do not let this stop you! It is worth the wait!

Our best recommendation? Go big or go home. Order off the specials board, get the side of home fries, add on the bacon, and order the biggest plate of pancakes they have on the menu. You won’t regret it, we promise!

Must have: Did we mention the pancakes?

Location: 105 Daniel Street, Portsmouth, NH

BONUS! (Because who can limit themselves when it comes to breakfast food??)

For those looking to venture over to the Newmarket area, you won’t be disappointed with a stop at The Big Bean Cafe. There’s something about the kitchen table seating, the wooden floors creaking under your feet as you refill your coffee cup, and the unmistakable smell of maple syrup in the morning.

Not only the restaurant, but the entire Main Street of Newmarket, features a hometown feel. With local shops and a quaint waterfront right next store, The Big Bean is the perfect spot for when you’re feeling the need for some downright good, homemade food.
